Michael Fields, MD, FACOG

For Physicians

da Vinci® Epicenter

The da Vinci Epicenter concept was developed in 2008 in response to the need for new gynecologic surgeons interested in robotic surgery to gain exposure to a surgeon and team practicing with skill, quality and efficiency that could be reproduced at the visiting surgeon's institution.  The concept has grown to accommodate surgeons with robotic surgery experience seeking to improve their skills or learn complex procedures.  It is also used to provide training for surgical teams that frequently accompany the visiting surgeon.  Teams are exposed to best practices in quality, efficiency and cost management.

Dr. Fields was chosen as one of the first Epicenter surgeons with his skilled team at what is now Physicians Regional Medical Center, part of Tennova Healthcare, in Knoxville, Tennessee.  The Epicenter site was transitioned to Tennova's Turkey Creek Medical Center in 2012 due to the concentration on surgical technology at this institution.  Dr. Fields had been training visiting surgeons prior to the Epicenter concept since late 2006.  To date, Dr. Fields has hosted more than 1500 guests, including surgeons, surgical O.R. teams and administrators.  He recently hosted a visiting surgeon from Ireland who traveled to learn specific skills combining laser technology with robotic surgery.
